[00:00:00] Hello and welcome everyone to the first episode of Flying Teacups. So this episode is more of an introduction than a true episode in order to just lay out the purpose of this podcast and explain some of my thinking.
[00:00:15] Flying Teacups is a Paranormal Podcast which attempts to look at the obscure and sometimes absurd cutting edge of paranormal research. While also looking for new creative ways to explore all strange phenomena and doing all of this
[00:00:31] while, of course, featuring amazing real stories submitted by our listeners like you. Now in my early days of exploring the Paranormal it really seemed like the various sub-topics of the paranormal were kept pretty separated. I think that this idea has changed
[00:00:48] and now more and more people are considering the idea of a common explanation to the Paranormal. Which brings me to the purpose of this podcast. So what I'm really looking for here is a unified
[00:00:59] theory of the Paranormal. This is the idea that separate Paranormal phenomena such as UFOs, bigfoot's or ghosts must fit into a unified explanation. In my opinion, a unified theory doesn't really have to be pretty or elegant. It simply has to explain the Paranormal in a way
[00:01:18] that makes sense and can also be measured. Just a silly example of a unified theory I had is that ghosts are just the result of spillover from other dimensions being caused as a side effect
[00:01:31] of UFOs traveling around, a bit like car exhaust. Now in this example, ghosts have lost their spiritual component and would be seen as just pollution. Now I'm not saying I believe this, but it's just one example of what a unifying theory could look like. Now of course,
[00:01:49] anybody listening to this podcast will be aware that Paranormal researchers are faced with many challenges. And obvious challenges, of course, the lack of any physical evidence usually left behind, which is usually true for all types of Paranormal experiences. But I think that the most fundamental
[00:02:06] challenge is that Paranormal phenomena is just not repeatable. A Paranormal event usually does not occur in the same location or under the same conditions multiple times in any predictable pattern. For example, let's say that an individual has a black-eyed kid sighting. These sightings seem to
[00:02:24] be completely random, pretty much unpredictable and not repeatable. So we simply have no idea why a Paranormal experience happens in either a particular location or to a particular person. I think that part of the reason why ghost hunting has become so popular is because hauntings
[00:02:45] are viewed as having consistency and being contained in an accessible location. Now with those examples out of the way, I do want to emphasize that this podcast is not meant to be about debunking people's experiences or about aggressive skepticism. Instead, I'm hoping to approach
[00:03:03] scenarios with more fun questions meant to reveal why the Paranormal is the way it is. Like if someone says to me that their dead grandma is making pennies appear randomly for them to find, I probably won't talk about synchronicity or mention how humans psychology can lead to seeing
[00:03:23] fake patterns even if that might be true. Now instead, I would probably ask why their grandma with their new powers over the US financial system is not sending over $100 bills instead.
[00:03:36] Now this might seem a little silly, but I think that questions like that could lead to some really cool discoveries. Now even though most of my previous examples work coincidentally all about ghosts,
[00:03:48] I don't mean to make fun of them. I'm hoping that this podcast will serve as a platform for people to share their real Paranormal experiences among friends and to learn from those experiences.
[00:04:01] I also hope that as the show evolves, we can find some ways to really poke at strange phenomena around us and in doing so force the Paranormal to reveal more of itself. So with all of that said,
[00:04:14] if you have a strange story or research idea that you'd like to share, please send it over. You can submit stories, listen our feedback and ideas at flyingtcups.com or you can call in and leave
[00:04:28] a voice message at 202 505 1144. That's 202 505 1144 or flyingtcups.com and as always, thanks for listening.
